The Phoenix Lottery
Author(s):
Allan Stratton
Junior Beamish, a well-meaning if emotionally unbalanced dilettante, inherits his father’s ill-gotten booze empire. Determined to atone for his father’s ruthless business practices, he launches a charitable foundation bankrolled by key company assets. Disaster ensues; bankruptcy appears certain. However, Junior is possessed of a fundraising inspiration: The Phoenix Lottery. His scheme offers its winner instant fame and fortune by taking a blowtorch to his prized van Gogh at an event beamed live around the world while selling the story to T.V., tabloids, and Hollywood.
